Growth and development — are not identical phenomena. The theory of phasic development shows the leading role of the development processes for the life of the plant. At the same time it should be noted cases where there is a significant influence growth on the development.

For a long time there were accumulating evidences that show the existence of a very deep connection between the growth and development of plants.

Importance of growth for the development of the plant is particularly evident in experiments with vegetating plants. V. I. Razumov (1959) grew winter wheat at a temperature of +8 °C for 40 days. Cultivation was carried out under different soil moisture: 70 and 35% of the total soil water saturation. After 40 days, all plants were grown under high temperature and soil moisture content to 70%. The results of this experiment were as follows. In wheat held vernalization stage at 70% soil moisture in the eared 54% of the plants; in plants, held vernalization stage at 35% humidity, earing didn’t happen.

Scientists have shown the effect of auxins on the development of long-day plants. Auxins act on plants of long day in the threshold conditions, i.e. when cultivating long-day plants at insufficient for them the length of the day. More clear results were obtained by Lang (1956) with a growth stimulating agent gibberellin. While working with this substance, it was possible to get flowering of some winter long-day plants (henbane, rape) in the short day.

V.I. Razumov (1959) believed that the impact of plant growth on their development is carried out by changing the metabolism and the influx of nutrients to the meristematic cells that are passing stage of vernalization.
