Soil and air moisture also affects growth. Of particular importance is the soil moisture that is closely associated, however, with humidity of the air as at lower relative air humidity sharply rises transpiration and dewatering of plant may occur. With a shortage of water in the soil a reduction of its content in the plant occur. Plasma colloids become dehydrated. Undersaturation of plasma colloids by water leads to a change in the metabolism, to amplification of the hydrolytic and to reduction of synthetic reactions. As a result, growth becomes suppressed. Especially strongly water scarcity influences on cell elongation and a little weaker — on fetal growth, i.e. cell division. As a result of the lack of water plants will have small growth and often grow with hypoplasia of certain parts.
