Human embryo and stages of its development

Human embryo is the organism from fertilization to the eighth week (inclusive) of natal development.

This is the most important, crucial and critical period, during which all the organs and tissues begin to form.

If a woman during pregnancy consumes alcohol, different drugs or becomes ill with influenza or rubella, then her child may born with a severe developmental defects, mentally defective or very weak.

The development of the fetus has certain stages: cleavage, formation of germ layers and membranes, the formation of tissues and organs. By the end of this period newly formed organism acquires distinctive human characteristics. Taken from http://worldofschool.org
